Know exactly where your electrical system stands. $49.
Most homeowners have no idea what shape their electrical system is in until something goes wrong. In about 30–45 minutes, I’ll go through the issue you called me for, as well as taking a look at the rest of your electrical system — panels, outlets, disconnects, and a general visual inspection — and tell you everything I see. What you do with the information is your decision. No pressure, no scare tactics. And if we schedule work that day, the $49 is waived.
The full walkthrough
- Age and condition of your main panel and any subpanels
- Wiring, terminations, and breakers — including double-tapped wires and other hidden problems
- Panel sealing and safety
- Switches and receptacles: age, condition, and wiring method (backstab wiring is a common problem that needs correcting)
- AC disconnects and wiring methods
- Surge protection — most homes don't have it, because most homes were built before it was required by code
- Grounding system
- Smoke detectors (they should be replaced every 10 years) and carbon monoxide detectors
- Whether your panel is one of the discontinued, dangerous brands (Federal Pacific, Zinsco, GTE Sylvania)
After the check, you’ll know everything I know. What you do with it is up to you — the only things I’ll push on are safety concerns.
